We’ve been building cool stuff behind the scenes, and today we’re excited to open up the Ybug REST API for public beta. We’ve loved building the integrations that help you get that data where it needs to go, but now we’re handing the keys over to you. With the new API, you can move beyond our built-in tools and build custom workflows that fit your team’s unique DNA.

What can you do with the Ybug API?

The REST API opens up endless possibilities for automation and custom reporting. Here are a few ways you can put it to work:

  • Custom reporting dashboards: Pull your feedback data into your own internal BI tools (like Looker or Grafana) to visualize bug trends and quality metrics over time.
  • Deep integrations: Build two-way syncs with internal tools or proprietary project management systems that we don’t support out-of-the-box.
  • Bulk actions: Programmatically manage projects, update feedback statuses, or export large volumes of data for your own archives.
  • Automated workflows: Trigger specific actions in your own infrastructure the second a new feedback report is received.

Stop polling, start hooked

We know nobody likes unnecessary work. Instead of constantly polling our API to check for new updates, you can use our webhooks. By registering for the feedback.created event, we’ll push the data to your target URL the moment it arrives. It’s a much more efficient way to keep your external tools updated without the overhead of repetitive API calls.

Who can access the beta?

The REST API is currently available to all users on our COMPANY plan. If you’re already on this plan, you can start building today! Not on COMPANY yet but want to take the API for a spin? Feel free to reach out to us—we’ll be happy to turn on a free trial so you can test things out and see if it’s the right fit for your workflow.

Fair usage and limits

To ensure a smooth experience for everyone, we’ve put some practical limits in place for the beta. The current global rate limit is 100 requests per minute (RPM) per authenticated client. If you happen to exceed this, you’ll receive an HTTP 429 Too Many Requests response. We think this is plenty for most use cases, but we’re always curious to hear if your workflow requires more.

Getting started

Ready to dive in? Here’s how to get your hands on the new API:

  1. Generate your token: Log in to your Ybug Dashboard and head over to the Developer tab in your profile settings to create your personal API token.
  2. Start building: Use your personal API token to authenticate your requests and start interacting with your Ybug data programmatically.
  3. Check the docs: We’ve put together detailed documentation to help you hit the ground running. You can find all the technical details at app.ybug.io/docs/api.html.

A quick note on the beta

Since this is a public beta, we’re still fine-tuning things. We’re curious to see what you’ll build, so if you run into any issues or have ideas for new endpoints, don’t hesitate to let us know. Your feedback helps us make Ybug better for everyone.
